ISLAMABAD: – Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and the opposition parties including Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), Awami National Party (ANP), Jamiat Ulema Islam – Fazl (JUI-F), Pakistan Muslim League – Functional (PML-F) and Pakistan Muslim League – Quaid (PML-Q) have on Monday agreed to nominate PPP leader Raza Rabbani asjoint candidate for chairmanship of Senate. ANP leader Asfand Yar Wali Khan announced on this occasion that candidatefor deputy chairmanship will be taken from Baluchistan,
In the meeting held at Zardari House in Islamabad, leaders from ANP, PPP, MQM, PML-Q, PML-F and JUI-F were present. Senators from Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) also attended the meeting. Qayyum Soomro and Asfand Yar Wali played critical role in bringing JUI-F leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman to terms.
Opposition leaders agreed on filing a joint candidate on both the seats. After consultations, it was agreed upon by all the parties that Raza Rabbani would be the best choice for chairmanship of Senate. Asfand Yar Wali announced that Deputy Chairman candidate will be taken from Baluchistan.
MQM leader Dr. Farooq Sattar said on this occasion that the coalition must continue in the future as well. He also informed that the quota between urban and rural areas of Sindh will be revised and local body elections will soon be held according to the commitments given by Co-Chairman PPP Asif Ali Zardari.
