(Web Desk) – President Dr Arif Alvi in Karachi on Saturday stressed the need for the local production of solar panels in the country in order to bring down the cost of the safest source of renewable energy.
He addressed the launching ceremony of Hilton Pharma s CSR initiative ‘Solar Energy Project’ to electrify 10,000 households across the country.
The president said Pakistan has emerged as the fifth largest market for solar energy.
He said Pakistan has other natural resources which could be diversified for the well-being of the masses.
He said the importance of dams for water storage remained relevant but these could not be justified for energy production other than small run of the river units to generate power at community level.
Commenting on the Prime Minister Imran Khan s address to the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), President Alvi said the PM enumerated major threats to the world, the risks if these were ignored and measures for addressing these issues.
