ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif on Friday has said that the country’s progress is linked with restoration of peace in Karachi.
The government has launched Voluntary Tax Compliance Scheme today.
Prime Minister addressed a gathering in the federal capital, organised to launch the scheme.
Nawaz Sharif said that the government wants to take along all sections with consensus. He said that strengthened economy would result in development of the country.
He said that the spirit that traders have shown in filing tax returns is the spirit that the government has for elimination of terrorism and unemployment. Strengthened economy would result in strengthened army, he added.
He said that the country which struggles with poor economy faces several issues. PM Nawaz said that the government wants to maintain such a low tax that the people are willing to file returns. Government desires to solve all issues with consensus and sincerity, he added.
On the occasion, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar said that the tax scheme has been formed keeping in mind the country’s interests. The scheme aims at convincing traders to file tax returns without any hesitation, he added.
Dar also said that the scheme would be presented in the National Assembly to make it a law. He said that the government would increase the number of filers from 10 lacs to 20 lacs with help of traders.
Federal Bureau of Revenue (FBR) Chairman Nisar Muhammad Khan said that traders, using the scheme would be exempted from audit. However, he said that the scheme does not apply to the members of the Parliament.
