PCB selectors left in no man’s land

KARACHI: Pakistan’s newly appointed chief selector Moin Khan currently stands in no man’s land.
The Islamabad High Court’s order (IHC) has limited the powers of the current PCB chairman Najam Sethi – terming him a mere caretaker – which has raised doubts over the legitimacy of the selection committee.
Sethi appointed the former cricketer as chief selector after Iqbal Qasim resigned while the other members of the previous selection committee were retained.
Moin and another selector Saleem Jaffar have been keenly observing the performances of players in the ongoing Ramazan T20 Cup but remain unsure as selectors.
“We’ve highlighted some good prospects but don’t know what our current status is after the decision by the IHC,” one of the selectors told The Express Tribune.
“The reason we’re coming to the National Stadium to witness these matches is that in case we’re allowed to continue to work as selectors, we’re ready with our work and list of potential players for the future.”
It should be mentioned here that this selection committee has also finalised a Pakistan U23 squad, which is yet to be announced because there is no clarity as to whether Moin could name the junior squad.
Malik books PIA’s final ticket
Discarded player Shoaib Malik, who is the PIA captain, scored an unbeaten half-century in a competitive run-chase as he guided his side into the final of the Ramazan T20 Cup as they beat KRL by seven wickets.
Set a target of 147, PIA got off to a good start after a 57-run opening stand between Malik, who ended with 63 off 56 with a six and five boundaries, while Agha Sabir scored 35 as they made 149 for three in 19.2 overs. Shaharyar Ghani continued to impress as he played an important hand with a 21-run cameo of 12 balls which included three boundaries.
Rahat Ali and Usman Khan took two wickets.
Earlier, Zain Abbas played a superb knock of 91 with three sixes and 11 fours to propel KRL to 146 for five in 20 overs. Salman Saeed claimed three wickets while Malik bagged one scalp.
