NAB arrests Zardari’s aide Aftab Memon

RAWALPINDI : The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has arrested Aftab Memon, the close aide of former president Asif Ali Zardari and secretary of Karachi Development Authority (KDA), sources said on Friday.

NAB Rawalpindi arrested Memon from Islamabad and will present him before an accountability court today to seek his physical remand, sources added.

The close aide of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader is accused of illegally allotting land to frontmen of political personalities, the sources further said.

In an interview with BBC Urdu on Thursday, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari criticised NAB and said it “was only created to pressurise political parties. If the rule of law was established, there would be no problem today.”

NAB has initiated probes against PPP leaders and even arrested some in corruption cases.

Last month, Sindh Assembly Speaker and PPP leader Agha Siraj Durrani was arrested for accumulating assets beyond means.
