ISLAMABAD – The government and the opposition on Wednesday agreed to form a parliamentary committee comprising 12 members to finalise Terms of Reference (TORs) of Panama Leaks probe, The approval for the committee will be taken from the National Assembly and Senate today (Thursday).
According to the details, the committee will comprise 6 members from government and 6 from the opposition. Government has sent 7 instead of 6 names including Federal Minister for Finance Ishaq Dar, Federal Minister for Defence Khawaja Asif, Federal Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafique, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Pervaiz Rashid, Federal Minister for Housing and Works Akram Durrani and National Party leader Hasil Bizenjo while the name of Zahid Khan has been added as Ex-Officio.
Meanwhile Opposition also sent the names of its members including Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Qaumi Watan Party s (QWP) chief Aftab Sherpao, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Aitzaz Ahsan, Awami National Party (ANP) leader Ilyas Bilour, Sahibzada Tariqullah and Tariq Bashir Cheema. No names were included from Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM).
Leader of the Opposition Khurshid Shah said that the the TORs of the committee will be sent by the government through a letter to the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP).
Earlier, talking to the media, Pervaiz Rashid said that the committee will be given 2-week time to finalise the TORs while its investigation will not only be limited the Panama Leaks case.
He said the members can be from both the National Assembly and Senate while there will be no head of the committee.
The federal minister said that the recommendation to form the committee was given by the Prime Minister to the National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq.
He said the approval to form the committee will be sought from the House on Thursday.
