Emergency imposed in Karachi hospitals after heatwave alert

KARACHI: Emergency has been imposed in several hospitals of Karachi after the weather department announced an alert of heatwave.

Karachi Mayor Waseem Akhtar has imposed emergency in all the hospitals which run under the municipal corporation and has also instructed the medical facilities to make their heat stroke wards operational.

Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) had announced that temperature is likely to increase in Sindh including the coastal areas of Karachi within the next three to four days.

Experts say that climate change is heavily affecting Pakistan since the past decade and Sindh, especially Karachi, is in danger due to changing weather.

In 2015, mercury reached 45 degrees centigrade in Sindh due to which 1200 people lost their lives and over 40,000 were hospitalized
