ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – The Capital Development Authority (CDA) teams along with a heavy contingent of policemen have continued their operation to demolish katchi abadi (slum settlement) in Sector I-11 of Islamabad on second day today (Friday),
Residents of these slums are being evicted by the Capital Development Authority on orders of the Interior Ministry.
Earlier on Thursday, more than 100 illegal slum-houses were demolished in Sector I-11 despite heavy resistance from the residents.
Residents including women and children threw stones on personnel as the operation began on the illegal settlements. Police also resorted to baton-charge and tear gas shelling to disperse protestors.
15 officials including Assistant Commissioner, duty magistrate, CDA and police personnel had sustained injuries due to stone throwing.
The operation had to be halted several times due to protests. The settlement with more than 1,000 houses has been 20% destroyed. Police have also arrested more than 70 protestors for resisting the move.
