ISLAMABAD  – Head of Panama Joint Investigation Team (JIT) on Thursday Wajid Zia is recording statement in Al-Azizia Steel Mills reference against Sharif family.

During the hearing headed by Justice Mohammad Bashir, ex-prime minister Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz appeared in the court.

Wajid Zia told that he was working as additional director in Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and that JIT was formed to find out whether Panama Leaks’ revelations were true or not.

Meanwhile, defence lawyer Khawaja Harris and prosecutor also exchanged harsh words over which, NAB official said that he should better leave as Nawaz’s counsel is raising objections on every sentence.

Write your objection for later discussion, he suggested.

Khawaja Harris responded that it’s his legal right to raise objection on anything he is not finding appropriate.

Afterwards, Wajid Zia submitted verified copy of Qatari prince’s letter and also assured that the statements of Maryam, Hassan and Hussain’s statements have been made part of the record.

Earlier, Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP) had granted one-month extension to the accountability court for trial of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) references against Sharif family.

A plea seeking extension of trial duration was submitted by NAB judge Justice Mohammad Bashir after defence lawyer Khawaja Haris pleaded for three-month extension, saying the trial cannot be completed in one month because of Ramazan.

The top court has also given extension to accountability court for case against former Finance Minister Ishaq Dar till June 9. Justice Ijaz-ul-Ahsan also assured to carry out transparent trial.
