ISLAMABAD – Palestinian President Mehmoud Abbas telephoned his Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif on Thursday and offered his condolences over Ahmadpur East tragedy.
While conversing with the Palestinian president, PM Nawaz said that oil tanker accident is a tragedy that saddened the entire nation a day before Eid-ul-Fitr. Abbas was told about the relief activities and medical facilities provided to the wounded.
The two leaders exchanged Eid greetings on the phone call. PM Nawaz further said that Pakistan has always supported just stance of Palestinian freedom and the government would continue moral and diplomatic support of Palestinians.
Earlier this week, an oil tanker had met an accident in Ahmadpur East of Punjab province and the inferno that ensued has claimed lives of over 160 persons.
Chief Minister (CM) of Punjab, Shehbaz Sharif among other lawmakers visited hospitals and inquired on health of the wounded.
The Punjab CM announced Rs 2 million ex gratia amount for families of the victims each and Rs 1 million for the wounded.
